Welcome to our City of El Cajon site, your source for El Cajon real estate and El Cajon Homes.  The City of El Cajon is located in the heart of the El Cajon Valley, approximately 12.9 miles from Downtown San Diego.  The Nearest cities and communities are: Bostonia, CA  (1.8 miles), Casa de Oro-Mount Helix, CA  (2.7 miles), Granite Hills, CA  (3.4 miles), Rancho San Diego, CA (3.5 miles), Winter Gardens, CA (3.7 miles), Santee, CA  (4.0 miles), Spring Valley, CA (4.7 miles), and La Mesa, CA  (4.7 miles).  El Cajon was incorporated in 1912 but there has been an established community in this fertile valley from the time of the California Gold Rush.  In fact, in 1876, a New England emigrant, Amaziah L. Knox, built the first El Cajon Home as a combination residence and hotel on the southwest corner of Magnolia and Main street.  Small additions to his El Cajon home were followed by a large two story annex In 1882.

At the turn of the century Knox’s Corner was the first El Cajon CA Real Estate development and it was also meant to be the nucleus of El Cajon’s CA business district for the next seventy years.  By the turn of the century the ”City of El Cajon” could boast two hotels, a general store, a meat market, the El Cajon post office, pharmacy, harness shop, blacksmith shop, and several smaller shops and offices. Yet, it wasn’t until 1912 that the city of El Cajon actually incorporated.  In the General Election of 1912 the electors voted to incorporate a 1 1/4 square mile area centering on the historic corners of Main and Magnolia.  By 1950, the city of El Cajon had grown to 9.8 square miles and the population of El Cajon had increased to 37,618. Currently, the city of El Cajon’s population estimate is over 95,000 and the city now covers 15 square miles.
